What We Do
At KAYDA, we are committed to empowering the most vulnerable children and youths in Kampala's informal settlements. Our key initiatives include:
- Community Sensitization and Education: Raising awareness on HIV/AIDS, reproductive health, and human rights through counseling, seminars, and outreach programs.
- Economic Empowerment: Providing training in income-generating activities and offering financial support to improve the economic stability of families.
- Positive Parenting and Youth Development: Fostering positive parenting practices and engaging youth in sports and creative arts to develop their talents and skills.
- Sports: Kayda Sports Academy recognizes that vulnerable children, such as those from underprivileged backgrounds, face many social and economic challenges. By engaging these children in sports, the academy provides them with opportunities for inclusion, fostering a sense of belonging and equality.
- Rescue and Rehabilitation: Supporting street children with basic needs, counseling, and rehabilitation programs to help them build a better future.
Our Story
Founded in 1995, the Katwe Youth Development Association (KAYDA) began as a grassroots initiative to address the pressing issues faced by youths in Kampala's slums. Officially registered as an NGO in 1996, we expanded our focus to include combating HIV/AIDS, drug abuse, child abuse, and the marginalization of people with disabilities.
Our mission is to empower the most vulnerable children and youths through education, sensitization, and skills development, aiming for sustainable poverty reduction and community transformation. Over the years, we've grown to offer a range of programs that address health, economic empowerment, and social cohesion, always involving the community in our efforts.
From our early beginnings to our current initiatives, KAYDA remains dedicated to creating lasting change and offering hope to those who need it most.
